Around 5000 Wellingtonians flocked to the CBD to see the city’s annual Pride Parade on Saturday.

The parade started at Tennyson Street at 7pm before making its way down Wellington’s “Rainbow Mile” of Courtney Place and Taranaki Street.

Among the 2,500 people participating in the march were the Green, Labour and National parties, ASB Bank, the New Zealand Police, the New Zealand Scouts as well as advocacy groups such as InsideOUT and Rainbow Wellington.

Wellington Mayor Justin Lester and his deputy Jill Day also marched after they announced plans for a Rainbow Crossing in the CBD to celebrate Wellington’s diversity.
