Mar 20th, 2018 | By | Category: Radio News

Wellington is set to become as walk friendly as possible thanks to Walk2Work Day.

Walk2Work Day is an event promoting walk friendly communities, organised by the council and lobby group, Living Streets Aotearoa.

Councillors Diane Calvert, Sarah Free, and Chris Calvi-Freeman used Walk2Work day to engage with members of the public around opportunities and challenges for walking in Wellington.

Diane Calvert, who is in charge of community engagement, says one of the next steps is to collaborate with other council departments.

Executive Committee Member of Living Streets Aotearoa, Ellen Blake, says the dialogue between the council and the public regarding walking is exciting.

Fellow Councillor Chris Calvi-Freeman says people may not realise walking is a key component of ongoing plans for sustainable transport.

According to the 2015 census, more Wellingtonians’ walk to work than any other major city in New Zealand.
