Folau unlikely to be banned from entering NZ

An immigration lawyer reckons anti-gay comments made by an Australian rugby player won’t see him banned from entering New Zealand.

Wallabies fullback Israel Folau came under fire last week when he commented on Instagram saying gay people were destined for hell unless they repented.

Immigration New Zealand Manager Stephanie Greathead says people can enter the country if they meet all entry requirements.

Under Section 15-16 of the Immigration act 2009, people with previous convictions or deemed to be a threat to security and public interest can be denied entry.

However Immigration Lawyer Aaron Martin says Israel Folau’s comments are unlikely to see him barred from entering New Zealand.
