Hutt Valley schools raising awareness around mental health

Aug 23rd, 2018 | By | Category: Latest News

Four Hutt Valley secondary schools are joining forces Friday to raise awareness around mental health.

Students from the four schools will be walking together from Stokes Valley to Hutt Valley High School in Woburn, dressed in the purple colours of the Mental Health Foundation.

The student’s senior executive team at St Oran’s came up with the idea of having a mental health week at their school.

Student Natasha George is helping run the activities and says those participating are representing everyone with mental health issues.

Statistics on the Mental Health Foundation show that one in five young Kiwis will be affected by

mental health issues by the age of 18.
