LISTEN: More action promised if teachers strike falls on deaf ears

Aug 15th, 2018 | By | Category: Featured Article

Striking teachers say if today’s action doesn’t yield results, the next strike will be for two days.

NZEI’s national president, Louise Green, says that the initial offer of a 2.2 to 2.6 percent pay rise is not enough.

Thousands of teachers endorsed her message by cheering and banging inflatable noise makers.

Paulette Holland from Rangikura School who has been teaching for 30 years, says they need to strike for the benefit of teachers to come.

This is the first time 29,000 teachers have been on strike across New Zealand for the first time in 24 years.
