WATCH: Teachers walk the talk for better conditions.

Aug 15th, 2018 | By | Category: Featured Article

Cold southerlies and drizzle didn’t stop Wellington teachers delivering their message to the government today.

Primary and intermediate teachers went on a full-day strike for smaller classrooms, more support for special needs students and smaller classroom sizes.

Teachers say the work related stress is driving senior staff away from full time in classrooms and the intake of new teachers has dropped by 40%.

Thousands gathered at Westpac Stadium this morning, where the crowd indicated they would support a two day strike if their needs were not met.

Following the rally, teachers marched to Parliament to meet with several MPs and a surprise appearance by Jacinda Ardern.
