A te reo Māori support teacher says being immersed in the culture is the best way to learn te reo.

Te Kura o Otari primary school in Wilton offers re reo immersion classes as well as teaching in English.

The majority of the students in the immersion stream are Māori, but some lack a te reo background.

Te reo support teacher Parekohai Wells assists teachers and students with their te reo.

Ms Wells says the immersion stream gives students an understanding of Te ao Māori.
