New Local college takes a stand on Te Reo

Sep 25th, 2018 | By | Category: News, Radio News

A Wellington school with only a handful of Māori students is making Te Reo compulsory.

Queen Margret College has 700 students and 3% are Māori.

From next year, students in year 7 and 8 will be taught Te Reo as part of their new curriculum.

Principal Jayne-Ann Young says, after they introduced Te Reo as a language option in April this year, the response was so positive that they decided to make it compulsory.
