Multi-media Journalism EquipmentMODERN news media demands modern journalists – which means multi-media journalists.

What is multimedia journalism?

It’s the knowledge and skills needed to report and write news in several media modes – print, web, radio, video and photographs.

With that in mind, Whitireia Journalism School has designed a new Certificate in Multimedia Journalism, which launches on January 25, 2010.

videoIt will equip students to progress to the school’s main programme, the Level 5 National Diploma in Journalism (Multi-media), the minimum qualification media employers require of job applicants.

The new 18-week certificate will be a fun programme, combining the traditional disciplines of research, reporting and writing with modern delivery platforms.

Students will illustrate their stories with digital still images and try their hand at video reporting for the web.

audioTheir work will be published on the school’s news website, NewsWire, the only one of its kind among NZ’s journalism schools. It publishes only student work, gets 20,000 hits a month and is linked to one of the country’s top news-sites, Scoop.co.nz.

Students graduating with the Certificate in Multimedia Journalism will be given top priority among those seeking a place on the diploma each year.
